The implant process, step by step

Every case is planned around you, but most follow the same clear path. Here's what to expect.

1. Consultation and planning. Your first visit is a conversation and an assessment. Dr. Ravi examines the area, reviews your health history, and uses 3D dental imaging to see the bone and nerves in detail. That planning matters: it lets him position the implant precisely and shows you what the plan looks like before anything begins. You'll leave knowing the steps, the timeline, and the cost.

2. Placement. When you're ready, Dr. Ravi places the titanium post into the jaw. This is a focused, controlled procedure done with local anaesthetic so the area is fully numb. For patients who feel anxious, or for longer surgery, an IV sedation option is available to help you stay calmer and more at ease throughout.

3. Healing and osseointegration. Over the next few months, the post fuses with your bone in a process called osseointegration. This is what gives an implant its stability, and it can't be rushed. Depending on your case, a temporary tooth can often be arranged so you're not left with a visible gap while you heal.

4. The final restoration. Once the implant has integrated, Dr. Ravi fits the custom crown, bridge, or denture attachment. He checks the bite, the fit, and the look, and adjusts until it feels right. Because he restores the implant himself, the dentist who planned and placed it is the one who finishes it.

"Dental implant" covers a few different treatments, and the right one depends on what you're replacing.

• Single tooth implant. One post and one crown replace a single missing tooth without altering the neighbouring teeth, which stay untouched.
• Multiple implants. Several implants can support a fixed bridge to replace a run of missing teeth, giving you back a stable set you don't remove.
• Implant-supported dentures. A small number of implants can anchor a full denture, so it clicks securely into place instead of resting on the gums. For many people this is a big step up in comfort and confidence when eating and speaking.
