Close to home in Clarkson
Clarkson, also known as Clarkson Village, runs from Lake Ontario north toward Erin Mills and Erindale, with Lorne Park to the east and the Oakville town line to the west. The village shops line Lakeshore Road West. Our office is on Clarkson Road North, a few minutes from Clarkson GO station, with parking close to the door.
Clarkson GO is also where much of the local bus network meets. MiWay Routes 13, 14, 23, 29, 45 and 110 all serve the station, so if you are coming from further north in the neighbourhood without a car, a bus to Clarkson GO leaves you a few minutes from us.
Call before you walk over
Because we are so close, it can be tempting to just turn up. Please phone first. A quick call lets the front desk hear what is happening, hold an urgent slot and have your details ready. The earlier in the day you reach us, the more options we have to see you before we close.
You do not need to be an existing patient. New patients are welcome for emergencies, and there is no expectation that you stay on afterwards.
A lost filling or crown
A filling or crown that comes loose is one of the most common reasons neighbours call. Until you are in the chair:
- Keep the crown if you still have it — often it can be re-cemented.
- Chew on the other side, and steer clear of very hot, cold or sweet foods, which can set off sensitivity.
- A little dental wax or temporary dental cement from the pharmacy can cover a sharp edge for a short while, but book in soon so the tooth is properly protected.
If the tooth underneath needs more than re-cementing, Dr. Ravi can often make a new ceramic crown in-house; many are designed and fitted in a single appointment with CEREC technology.
Toothache and swelling
For a bad toothache, rinse with warm salt water, floss gently around the sore tooth in case food is trapped, and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the packet. A severe toothache usually means something needs attention, not just pain relief, so phone us so we can find the cause.
Swelling of the gum, jaw or face can signal an abscess and should be seen the same day. Hold a cold compress on the outside of the cheek and keep heat away from the area.
When the office is closed
After hours, calls to (905) 855-2622 reach an automated assistant. It takes a message so the office can call you back; it is not a person and cannot give dental or medical advice. If you have spreading facial swelling, fever with mouth pain, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or a serious facial injury, call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room, then let us know so we can plan your follow-up.
