Emergency care

Emergency dentist in Mississauga — call us first, we'll get you in

When a tooth hurts badly, breaks, or gets knocked out, it's hard to think clearly. So here's the simplest advice we can give: call us first. If you need an emergency dentist in Mississauga, our team at Clarkson Village Dental will pick up, talk you through what to do right now, and get you seen quickly — often the same day. Our number is **(905) 855-2622**. One dentist, Dr. Ravi, handles urgent care from the first phone call through to the fix. You'll see him at every visit, and we'll walk you through it before anything begins. We're a proudly independent, dentist-owned practice at 1098 Clarkson Road North, in the heart of Clarkson Village. We look after local families in Clarkson, Lorne Park and the wider Mississauga area — for everyday checkups and for the days that don't go to plan.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Not every dental problem needs to be seen the same hour. But some do. Call us right away if you have any of these:

  • A knocked-out (or pushed-out) permanent tooth. This is time-sensitive — the sooner you're seen, the better the chance of saving it.
  • A broken, cracked, or chipped tooth, especially if it's sharp, painful, or bleeding.
  • A severe toothache that keeps you up at night, throbs, or isn't easing with over-the-counter pain relief.
  • Swelling in your gum, jaw, or face — this can point to an infection (an abscess) and shouldn't wait.
  • A lost filling or crown that leaves a tooth sensitive or exposed.
  • Bleeding or an injury to your mouth, lips, or gums after a fall or knock.
  • Pain around a dental implant or a recent procedure that's getting worse, not better.

A quick note on the serious end: if you have facial swelling that's spreading toward your eye or neck, a fever with mouth pain, or any trouble breathing or swallowing, treat it as a medical emergency — go to your nearest hospital or call 911. Then let us know so we can plan your dental follow-up.

If you're not sure whether what you're feeling counts, call anyway. No question is too small, and we'd rather hear from you early than have you wait it out in pain.

What to do right now

Here are calm, practical first-aid steps while you get in touch. None of these replace being seen — they just help you hold steady until you're in the chair.

For a knocked-out tooth

  • Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part you chew with), not the root.
  • If it's dirty, rinse it gently with milk or clean water for a few seconds. Don't scrub it or wrap it in tissue.
  • If you can, slot it back into the socket and bite down softly on a clean cloth to hold it in place.
  • If you can't reinsert it, keep it moist — in a small container of milk, or tucked inside your cheek if that's safe to do.
  • Call us straight away. A knocked-out permanent tooth is most likely to be saved when it's re-seated quickly, ideally within the hour.

For a broken or chipped tooth

  • Save any pieces you can find and bring them with you.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • If there's bleeding, press gently with clean gauze or a cloth.
  • Hold a cold compress against your cheek to ease swelling.
  • Avoid chewing on that side until we've seen you.

For a lost filling or crown

  • Keep the crown if you still have it — often it can be re-cemented.
  • Avoid chewing on that side and steer clear of very hot, cold, or sweet foods, which can set off sensitivity.
  • A little dental wax or temporary dental cement from the pharmacy can cover a sharp edge for a short while, but book in soon so the tooth is properly protected.

For a severe toothache

  • Rinse with warm salt water.
  • Floss gently around the sore tooth in case food is trapped.
  • Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the packet.
  • Don't place aspirin directly on the gum — it can burn the tissue.
  • Call us so we can find the cause. A bad toothache usually means something needs attention, not just pain relief.

For swelling or a suspected abscess

  • Rinse with warm salt water and use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek.
  • Don't apply heat to the area.
  • Call us the same day — swelling from infection needs prompt care, and again, if it's spreading fast or affecting your breathing or swallowing, go to hospital or call 911.

Same-day care, one dentist, start to finish

We keep room in the schedule for urgent visits because emergencies don't book ahead. When you call (905) 855-2622, tell us what's happening and we'll bring you in as soon as we can — often the same day. The earlier in the day you reach out, the more options we have to see you before we close.

It's Dr. Ravi from the first look to the last stitch. He keeps complex emergency care in-house — from urgent extractions and root canal treatment to crowns, implants, and reconstructive work. You'll work with Dr. Ravi from the first phone call through to the fix — one trusted dentist, all the way through. You can read more about Dr. Ravi's background and training if you'd like to know who you'll be seeing.

We'll always explain what we're seeing and lay out your choices before we begin. If a tooth can be saved, we'll tell you how. If it can't, we'll be straight with you about that too — no pressure, just a clear plan and a clear estimate of what the care involves.

If you're anxious — or the emergency is complex

Dental emergencies are stressful even for people who don't mind the dentist. If fear is part of what's kept you away, or if the work ahead is involved, we offer an IV sedation option to help you feel calmer and more at ease during treatment. It's given and monitored in our office, and we'll talk through whether it's a good fit for you and your health before anything starts. The goal is a more comfortable visit, so the fear of getting help never becomes the reason a small problem turns into a bigger one.

After your emergency visit

Getting you out of pain is the first step, not the whole story. Once the urgent problem is settled, we'll explain what happened and what the tooth needs longer term — sometimes that's a single follow-up, sometimes a short plan to fully restore or protect the tooth. We'll send you home knowing how to care for the area in the meantime: what to eat and avoid for a day or two, how to manage any tenderness, and the signs that mean you should call us back. If your emergency started as a cracked or heavily filled tooth, we may talk about a crown to protect what's left, and Dr. Ravi can often complete that in-house. Nothing is decided on the spot or under pressure — you'll leave with a clear picture of your options and the cost involved.

New patients are welcome — including CDCP

You don't have to be an existing patient to be seen for an emergency. We welcome new patients, and we'd rather you called us in pain than searched around while a tooth got worse. If today's emergency becomes the start of a longer relationship, wonderful — but there's no expectation. Come in, get sorted, and decide from there. Here's what to expect as a new patient whenever you're ready.

We're also accepting patients through the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which helps eligible Canadian residents with the cost of dental care. If you'd like to know whether you qualify, you can check your eligibility at canada.ca. Bring your coverage details to your visit and we'll help you understand how it applies to the care you need.

Clarkson Village Dental, established in 2002 and owned by Dr. Ravi since 2015, has long looked after local families, and neighbours across Clarkson, Lorne Park and south Mississauga come to us for exactly these moments. Common questions

Questions answered.

Do you see dental emergencies the same day?
Often, yes. We hold room in the schedule for urgent visits. Call (905) 855-2622 as early in the day as you can, tell us what's happening, and we'll get you in as soon as possible — frequently the same day.
What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with milk or clean water if it's dirty, and try to place it back in the socket, biting softly on a clean cloth. If you can't, keep it in a container of milk. Then call us straight away — a knocked-out permanent tooth has the best chance of being saved when it's seen quickly, ideally within the hour.
Is a bad toothache a dental emergency?
A severe toothache — one that throbs, keeps you up at night, or doesn't ease with over-the-counter pain relief — is worth an urgent call. Pain usually means something needs attention. Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently in case food is trapped, and phone us so we can find the cause.
Can new patients come in for an emergency?
Yes. You don't need to be an existing patient. We welcome new patients for emergencies, and we'd much rather you called us in pain than waited. You can decide about ongoing care afterward — there's no pressure either way.
Does CDCP cover emergency dental care?
We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan, which helps eligible Canadian residents with the cost of dental care. What's covered depends on your specific plan, so bring your coverage details to your visit and we'll help you understand how it applies. To check whether you're eligible, visit canada.ca.
I'm nervous about the dentist. Can you help me through an emergency?
Absolutely. We offer an IV sedation option to help anxious patients feel calmer and more at ease, given and monitored in our office. We'll talk through whether it's right for you before we begin. The aim is a more comfortable visit so worry never keeps you from getting help.
