Heading west from Lorne Park
Lorne Park is a residential neighbourhood in south-west Mississauga, and Clarkson is its neighbour to the west. That is where you will find us — one office, with no second location inside Lorne Park.
- Driving: Lakeshore Road is the main east–west route through the area. Follow it west into Clarkson. Parking is close to our door.
- By bus: MiWay Route 23 Lakeshore runs along Lakeshore Road through Lorne Park to Clarkson GO every day of the week. Route 14 Lorne Park also ends at Clarkson GO, on weekdays outside rush hours. Our office is a few minutes from Clarkson GO station.
- Getting in: a ramp runs up to the entrance from the parking area at the side of the building. The entrance door is not automatic, so if you are carrying a child or need a hand, call ahead and someone will meet you and hold it open.
Knocks, falls and broken teeth
Mouth injuries tend to happen in the middle of an ordinary day — a fall, a knock, a bite on something hard. These are the ones to phone about straight away:
- A permanent tooth knocked out or pushed out of place. This one is time-sensitive: the sooner it is seen, the better the chance of saving it.
- A broken, cracked or chipped tooth, especially if the edge is sharp, painful or bleeding.
- Bleeding or an injury to the lips, gums or mouth after a fall or knock.
While you get in touch, save any broken pieces and bring them along. Rinse the mouth with warm water, press clean gauze or a cloth on anything that is bleeding, and hold a cold compress against the cheek. Avoid chewing on that side until you have been seen. For a knocked-out tooth, pick it up by the crown rather than the root and keep it in a small container of milk on the way over.
Pain and swelling that build up slowly
Not every emergency starts with an accident. A toothache that throbs, keeps someone up at night, or is not easing with over-the-counter pain relief deserves a call. So does swelling in the gum, jaw or face, which can point to an abscess — a localised infection that should not wait. In the meantime, rinse with warm salt water and use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek. Do not apply heat, and do not place aspirin on the gum, because it can burn the tissue.
If swelling spreads toward the eye or neck, or comes with a fever or any difficulty breathing or swallowing, treat it as a medical emergency: call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room.
