Emergency Dentist Near Oakville

Clarkson Village Dental is in Mississauga, not Oakville, but Clarkson borders Oakville and our office at 1098 Clarkson Road North is close to the town line. If you are in Oakville with a swollen jaw, a tooth that will not stop aching or a crown that has come off, call (905) 855-2622 as early in the day as you can and we will do our best to see you the same day. Hours: Mon 8:00–5:00 · Tue 8:00–6:00 · Wed 8:00–5:00 · Thu 9:00–6:00 · Fri 8:00–3:00.

Crossing the town line

Oakville is its own town and the seat of Halton Region, while Clarkson is a Mississauga neighbourhood whose western edge meets Oakville. The boundary makes no difference to your care: new patients from Oakville are welcome, we directly bill most dental insurance plans, and we accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

  • GO train: on the Lakeshore West line, Clarkson is the next stop east of Oakville GO, with Bronte GO one stop further west of Oakville. Our office is a few minutes from Clarkson GO station.
  • Oakville Transit: Routes 4, 11 and 12 connect to Clarkson GO. Route 4 continues west to Bronte GO by way of Oakville GO.
  • Driving: head east into Clarkson. There is parking close to the entrance and a ramp up to the door; the door is not automatic, so call ahead if you would like someone to hold it.

Swelling, infection and pain that is getting worse

Some problems announce themselves slowly, over a day or two. Call us the same day if you notice any of these:

  • Swelling in the gum, jaw or face — it can point to an abscess and should not wait.
  • A toothache that throbs, wakes you at night, or does not ease with over-the-counter pain relief.
  • Pain around a dental implant or a recent procedure that is getting worse rather than better.
  • A lost filling or crown that leaves a tooth sensitive or exposed.

Until you are seen, rinse with warm salt water, keep a cold compress on the outside of the cheek and avoid putting heat on the area.

If it is a crown that has come off, hold on to it; often it can be re-cemented. Until then, chew on the other side and skip very hot, cold or sweet foods. A little dental wax from the pharmacy can cover a sharp edge for a short while.

When it is a medical emergency, not a dental one

Swelling that spreads toward the eye or neck, fever alongside mouth pain, trouble breathing or swallowing, or a serious facial injury needs hospital care first. Call 9-1-1. In Oakville, Halton Healthcare's Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, at 3001 Hospital Gate, has an emergency department open 24 hours. Once the medical issue is dealt with, phone us to arrange dental follow-up.

After our office closes, the phone is answered by an automated assistant that takes a message so the office can call you back. It cannot give dental or medical advice, so do not wait on a callback if symptoms are serious.

Your visit

Dr. Ravi sees every emergency patient himself. He will explain what is going on and set out your options, with a clear estimate, before any treatment begins. Urgent extractions, root canal treatment and crowns are handled in-house. If dental visits make you anxious, ask about our IV sedation option, which is given and monitored in our office.

For ongoing care, see our Oakville dentist page. Our main emergency dental care page covers first aid for a knocked-out or broken tooth.
